Product Safety

RoHS and WEEE are both environmental European Union Directives addressing electrical and electronic equipment. They were passed in 2003 for implementation in 2005 and 2006.

RoHS (Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances)

RoHS

Restricts the use of certain Hazardous Materials in electrical and electronic equipment. Specifically, new electrical and electronic equipment cannot contain more than the following concentrations of these materials:

  • Cadmium -> 0.01%
  • Hexavalent chromium (also known as chromium VI or Cr6+) -> 0.1%
  • Lead -> 0.1%
  • Mercury -> 0.1%
  • Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) (flame retardant used in plastics) -> 0.1%
  • Polybrominated diphenyls ethers (PBDE) (flame retardant used in plastics) -> 0.1%

WEEE (Directive on Waste from Electronic and Electronical Equipment)

WEEE

WEEE places responsibility for providing waste disposal infrastructure for electrical and electronic equipment (and other e-waste) on the manufacturer. Companies are required to take care of collected waste in an environmentally-friendly manner, either by ecological disposal or by reuse or refurbishment.

It is Agfa's policy to conduct business in a manner consistent with sound environmental management practices and to comply with applicable environmental laws and regulation.
Agfa is taking steps to ensure that the suppliers understand the requirements and work with us to ensure that our equipment products meet the standards and thereby the RoHS and WEEE legislation.
Agfa is committed to meeting the requirements for the RoHS and WEEE Directive.

Agfa is fully WEEE compliant for all ICT products and Medical Devices since 1 July, 2005.

For all ICT equipment, Agfa is committed to working only with suppliers who meet the compliance requirements. ICT producs from Agfa are RoHS compliant as from 1 July, 2006.
Additionally, for all other products, Agfa is taking all necessary steps to ensure compliance in the near future.
