Agfa's IMPAX Data Center provides large-scale multimedia storage of all types of medical images and diagnostic results for hospital groups, regionalhealthcare organizations and national medical archives. They are designed to meet the needs of new technologies such as multi-slice CT. They also meet the need of the extension of PACS into other image-intensive clinical departments, including cardiology and orthopaedics.

IMPAX Data Center is a scalable and fault tolerant DICOM archive solution designed to store clinical DICOM data objects, including DICOM encapsulated non-imaging objects such as waveforms, structured reports and PDFs. IMPAX Data Center consolidates data of disparate storage systems onto a single point of storage. It caters to the needs of enterprise storage for large, multi-site and multi-facility Healthcare domains. Healthcare providers benefit as IMPAX Data Center facilitates the sharing of its patient data. More importantly, patients benefit as their exams and results will be available at every location in the Hospital Enterprise, consequently, enhancing their care.

Agfa HealthCare's IMPAX Data Center can receive hundreds of images per second, a valuable resource in a world where 64-slice CT scanning is fast becoming a standard of care. It has the ability to manage millions of exams and petabytes (approximately a thousand terabytes) of information.

Due to its adherence to standards, the IMPAX Data Center can be part of any existing or new Agfa HealthCare PACS, or exist in legacy or multi-vendor environments, further increasing data sharing and even disaster recovery.
